Never allow yourself to

by admin on Jan.28, 2010, under Uncategorized

Never allow yourself to be pressured or hurried into something that you are not ready for. A loan is a serious thing that you will be saddled for the next few weeks or months till you pay it back. Don’t let anyone but yourself determine how it is going to be, and who you are going to borrow from. However well you bargain, a lender will not let you have a loan unless they are making some profit from it. Don’t forget that as you negotiate the terms of the loan; feel free to ask for more and more concessions until they will bend no further. That is how to do business. Discuss you loan terms in detail before you take the loan. I say this with particular urgency because a lot of folks in urgent need never read the fine print of their loan contracts, and in the end they lose everything. After reading them, you must talk them over with you lawyer even, if you have one with you. See that all is well before you do the deed. In the United States you can do almost every kind of borrowing under the sun. You can borrow with or without security, long- or short-term, big or small bucks. With all of these facilities at your service, you have a job in your hands knowing how to take advantage and making the best of it. But if you will progress, you must learn how to. There are two critical things you need to bear constantly in mind about a los before you even think to take one. The first is that you don’t want that money you are borrowing to waste; the second is that you don’t want to owe by the time you are done with this venture. Let them be your guidelines when you borrow, and you might surprise yourself by striking rich.

Library project sees the light

0 Comments | Telegraph – Herald; Dubuque, Iowa, Jan 23, 2010 | by ANDY PIPER

The light at the end of Carnegie-Stout Public Library’s renovation tunnel is all natural. A section of the second floor is now open to the public and a skylight that had been covered for decades by a drop ceiling casts a glow on the periodicals, glass- floored mezzanine and reading area.

While the project is a few months behind schedule and won’t be completed until July, visitors who remember this second-floor section before it was closed in 1981 glimpse the building’s historic past melded with its future.

“I can’t wait for people to see how warm and inviting the space is,” said Susan Henricks, library director. “I think people will enjoy the quiet and beauty.”

The second floor will be finished in April, but the entrance leading to it probably won’t open immediately. The doors are being restored off-site and the marble floor is being refinished, but additional staff members might be needed to monitor the area. A circular marble staircase, which was removed in 1981, will again lead from the first floor to the third floor.

“This library has been criticized over the years because the addition is a separate building,” Henricks said. “We can’t do anything about the outside, but the inside through architectural design is bringing the two buildings together.”

A feature of the renovation is improved sight lines that allow patrons in each corridor to see from one end of the building to the other. Despite the open floor plan and high ceilings, Henricks said energy costs should remain the same or even drop because of today’s technology.

“We are going to apply for LEED certification as an existing building designation,” Henricks said. “We will be the first library in the Midwest to have existing building designation, and we will be the first library in the country to have certification as a building that is also on the National Register of Historic Places.”

The view of the rotunda is blocked to prevent construction dust from settling on the completed third floor, but the original stenciling has been painted around it based on a photograph from 1902.

The library will be closed on Feb

When you suffer from lung cancer, you

by admin on Jan.27, 2010, under Uncategorized

When you suffer from lung cancer, you know that you don’t have a lot of options. Now you have to sit and settle down to what the doctor asks you to do, not for the cure they don’t have that yet but for a little relief. Boy, what a life! They do try to treat cancer, and with increasing levels of success over the years. Lung cancer is one of the most terrible and debilitating, and treating it is that much harder. However, if you are with some of the best physicians in the country, you could still get the best of it. If you suffer from lung cancer, you need to be close to your family doctor. The pain is not continuous, but its horrible when its there. And treating it is not a lot better either. But please pay attention; if the doctor says there are things you can do to help it, then there must be, and you must let them help you. You know its not over until its over. Without a scan, you might never be able to tell that you have a cancer, let alone lung cancer. Sometimes these things even come along so slowly that you don’t even have a clue that you are suffering until it is quite advanced. Thats why you ought to be going for regular checks all the time. To treat a lung cancer, you have to get it staged first. The level of advancement of the condition will determine what kinds of medication the doctor will be recommending, and what kinds of activities you may engage in. Before you get that verdict, just hold on, will you?

What's sizzling?

What’s sizzling?

0 Comments | New Straits Times, Jan 24, 2010 | by Tan Bee Hong

IT’S Korean. It’s Japanese. It’s both – Korean-style barbecue done the Japanese way at Kannichikan Yakiniku, writes TAN BEE HONG.

It’s just after 6pm but the door of Kannichikan Yakiniku remains steadfastly shut. Oh dear? Are they closed on a Saturday? We give the wooden door a hesitant knock and before Ali Baba can say “Open sesame”, it slides open and a waiting staff welcomes us in Japanese, with a wide smile.

It seems that when the restaurant is open, the staff hang a red noren cloth curtain over the doorway. There’s also a small blue Welcome sign hanging at the side.

Step in and you immediately notice two rows of lime-green exhaust fans hanging over each table. Ghastly but totally necessary as Kannichikan Yakiniku (KNK) is a restaurant where you grill the food at your table. Imagine if there are no exhaust fans!

Set in the middle of each table is a metal depression where the staff will place a brazier of burning charcoal briquettes. You grill your food on a metal wire over the embers.

“This charcoal can sustain high heat for more than an hour with minimal sparks and little ash. It also gives the grilled food with a smoky aroma. With kerosene, you get a chemical smell,” say restaurateur Y.C. Leow and his wife Tracy.

You can sit at standard tables and chairs or remove your shoes and step onto a platform with low tables. Don’t worry about comfort as you can slip your legs into the sunken part under the table.

Leow was enamoured of kannichikan outlets in Japan when he was a student there about 10 years ago. “The first time I ate in one, I knew I wanted to open a kannichikan in Malaysia,” he says. His first outlet opened in Penang in 2000 and today, he has three KNKs.

We order Kimuchi-Moriawase (RM10), a mixed kimchi dish comprising radish, cabbage and cucumbers. We spot sashimi (RM23) but don’t expect raw fish.

Instead, it’s mostly beef. We have two, Yukke and Gyu-Tataki. The first is strips of tender beef topped with a raw egg yolk and sliced radish and lemon. You squeeze a bit of lemon juice, break the yolk and stir it all up, including the radish. Gyu-Tataki is sliced roasted beef with a pink centre, served with grated radish.

Beef is the specialty at KNK, explains Leow. But there are plenty to eat for non-beef eaters like myself, like the tasty Chichimi (RM17), a Korean-style pancake with prawns and chives.

I opt for chilled lamb rack (RM23), saba fish fillet (RM20) and a seafood set (RM40) with squid, scallops and two king prawns.

The fish is marinated with salt which really brings out its sweetness when grilled. Do be careful of the bones though

Mouth ulcers are usually

by admin on Jan.26, 2010, under Uncategorized

Mouth ulcers are usually a result of certain erosive chemicals contained in over the counter teeth whitening products; to avoid this condition, ask your doctor for a list of whitening products that have been tried, tested and proved safe. A dirty colored set of teeth is definitely not good for anybodys morale because part of what makes a beautiful person is the smile; this is the reason why many are opting for teeth whitening products to whiten their teeth. Bad breath caused by the malfunctioning of the digestive system can be cured by acidophilus and bifidus which helps to balance the digestive system and wash away impurities. The high record of decaying dentition amongst the American people has led to the surge in awareness of dental hygiene and a rise in the demand and use of teeth whitening products. The growth of the tooth whitening industry is growing rapidly and the yields are massive because of the success it has in the sale of tooth whitening products; statistics put the turnover of this industry at two billion dollars a year.
